The Brownie Who Ate Daddy's Grilled Cheese & Earned A Patch

One tough #brownie! My Girl Scout ate a Wayfarer #Grilledcheese from @GCsocial. Fun patch worthy? I thought so.

My 8 year old daughter is in Girl Scouts. She really enjoys it and goes to almost all the troop meetings and outings. But you couldn't tell her total participation from her vest. I'm not sure if it's because I am behind sewing patches on, missed a million emails about GS events or maybe the patches just fell off. Poor GG. Her vest has about half as many fun patches as the rest of her brownie troop. And this is the last year.

So I did a little creative problem solving to replace a few lost/maybe never sewn on badges plus got to support a fantastic blog.

I honestly have no idea about the rules of Girls Scout Brownie fun patches but as a reward for not only trying something new, trying something that was intended for daddy (this is one manly sandwich)... I purchased her this delightful *alternative* patch from Grilled Cheese Social (pictured above).

Stuff The Stuffed Animals (Part 3)

Update: I've always loved these white wire baskets for stuffed animals but not so much the prices. At my latest trip to Target, I found them for under $20. I don't see them online though so you'll have to pack up the kids and head out to see if your local Target has them. Crate & Barrel also doesn't sell them anymore so I've update the link below for an alternative from Land of Nod. They actually have several colors besides white so a great find!

Looking for stuffed animal or toy storage that is a little more subtle? While I love decorative storage, something that blends into the surroundings or lets it's cleaned up contents be the decoration (like a well organized book shelf) is the ticket! Another great benefits of a wire bin like this for large toys, is the kids can't shove thing like Lego's or small things that don't belong. I go crazy cleaning out our large bins because they are canvas covered and my rugrats just shove everything in them. I heart this method much more.

Check out Jaimie's solution from PrudentBaby.Com. I love how this large white wire bin/basket (Crate & Barrel bin no longer available but you can find them now at Land Of Nod) keeps the toys visible yet nicely contained. It's really cute and a perfect way to keep stuffed toys tidy yet not totally out of site (a.k.a forgotten). Read the whole story behind this fab find...

Win It Wed: Monster Defense Brave Spray

Posh*Little: Win a bottle of Monster Defense Brave Spray

We've never really had a problem with my 2 year old going to bed. On the contrary, we actually have a hard time keeping her awake so she'll stop waking the entire house up at 5:30 every morning (if we're lucky, that is). That was until recently when my 6 year old used monsters as a lure to get her out of her room. Now, not only does she wake up at 5:30 am, we have to negotiate at bed time because of monsters, shadows and a creepy big sisters. I can't handle the fight at both ends. If you're going to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, you are going to bed w/out a fight. Period!

So when I was contacted by the makers of Monster Defense Brave Spray I couldn't reply quick enough. It's one of those things that is so silly but so perfect. From my kids point of view, I spray away everything. Lice, germs, dirt, stinks, ouches, tangles, stains, etc. Why not spray away the monsters? Like a boo-boo bag or band-aide, sometime a little attention is all they need to feel better and calm their nerves. I am all for this.

So far, Monster Defense has worked great. If Hadley stands back up in her crib and yells about monsters after I tuck her in, I grab the spray and ask her how many monsters she sees. She usually tells me two (since there are two shadows) and then I pump two sprays. After this brave act of monster slaying, I'll breath the freshly sprayed air and tell her how yummy it smells and that it worked. Now it's only shadows which means it's time to go night night.

Cavy Crazy: Guinea Pigs The Posh Little Way

Cavy Crazy: Guinea Pigs The Posh Little Way

Mid December our family had to say goodbye to our beloved Nellie, an 11 year old cockapoo. It was devastating for my husband and I but even harder for my 4 kids who have never experienced loss before outside of fish. Nellie was a big part our family and with each child since they were born. Since we weren't necessarily ready to take on a new puppy (4 kids and two dogs is a lot) we packed up our sad little clan and headed to Petsmart to get a Guinea Pig.

I had had guinea pigs growing up so was super excited about getting one for my kids. Wasn't excited about the mess though. They wanted a hamster at first but with a little chat about how guinea pigs squeak and can be so much more fun, guinea pig/mom won. It's been a long time since my guinea pig days so I had to do a little research. One thing I am really glad has changed is a new trend away from chip bedding. An alternative was fleece. I thought it was nuts at first but after a few weeks of using Aspen Bedding (wood shavings that came with our cage) and the icky mess it was to clean up, I definitely recommend trying the fleece for guinea pig cages instead.

You can see our set up in the top picture. This is a built in desk area in our laundry room right off our kitchen. Our dog has a bed under the desk area so they can hang out a little. It's a high traffic area where she's never alone. I store her hay and food in glass jars. It's much nicer looking and tidier than the bags that were never getting re-sealed and spilling.

Sweet Baby Necklace by StephieMc Designs

Sweet Baby Customized Necklace By StephieMC Via Posh*Little

For most people it's time to get a new necklace when it gets broken, lost or dropped down the drain. For a baby machine like me who loves to sport customized jewelry celebrating each child, it's when you have another baby.

So just in time to help me celebrate the arrival of my new baby girl, my adorable new Sweet Baby (now called the Bree) customized necklace arrived from StephieMc Designs along with a 25% off coupon code for you (keep reading for the details).

The Sweet Baby necklace is an 18" Sterling Silver necklace with a Sterling Silver hand stamped charm and crystal. The charm can hold up to 12 letters and the crystal can be your babies birthstone or you can choose pink or blue. Hand stamped jewelry has been my favorite lately and I also love the sweet little foot prints on this charm. Such a sweet little necklace.

Mommy Style File: 5 Minute Makeup (or less)

I got several emails after my What's In My Mommy Makeup Bag post (yes I am sorry my comment system seems to not be working well) about mommy makeup and not just what I use but also tips about quick makeup tips and so I thought I would share a great video I was inspired by. there are of course so many pictures and videos via Pinterest and YouTube but as a mom (w/no time or flat out inspiration) the trick is finding someone you can relate to and here a gem of a video that I discovered last year and have gone back to time and time again.

This is from beauty/mommy blogger Cara from Maskara.Com (such Top Mommy Blogs material; next mission to get her to join :-) Anyway, total mom video... starts out by distracting the baby so she can do her 4 minute day time make up routine then goes on to get the job done/inspire.

I love her technique (under eye shadow has changed my look) and absolutely love the fact that she links to all the products that she uses. It drives me nuts to read about products online and then not be able to click right then and buy then, so she is great at that (as I try to be).

Mommy Style File: What's in my makeup bag? #blogatron2000

What's in my makeup bag: Daytime vs. Evening via poshlittle.com

Over at Top Mommy Blogs I added a handy little blogging tool called the Blogatron 2000 (you have to say it with gusto like your a salesman telling people to step right up... for full effect). Essentially it's a random  blog topic generator that will give you new and creative blog ideas. Since today I was kind of overwhelmed with all the cyberweek emails and events, I thought I would try something different and pull a topic from there.

So today I'm spilling out my makeup bag out to share my favorite products for day and evening makeup. Or as my 2 year old will say, "mommy painting".

Daytime

What's in my makeup bag: Daytime via poshlittle.com

The above is my standard daytime routine makeup. Daytime for me is usually fairly neutral and minimal but with little pinches of color and sparkle. Mineral powder foundation, blush, neutral eye shadow, mascara and pinky or peachy lip gloss. It's my 3 minute makeup blitz that I have no excuse not to do but is just enough to make me look put together. These are the products/colors I buy over and over with exception of the Sonia Kashuk eye shadow I recently picked up and really like. I'm out of my usual eye shadow duo, Aveda Spark & Aura (sold separately), so the SK quad set I snagged from Target was an easy and inexpensive alternative until I re-order.

Hip Hip Hurray! We Made It To Black Friday

hip hip hurray, we made it to black Friday!

While I am definitely more of a Cyber Monday type of shopper, I still like to keep an eye out on Black Friday deals and not all Black Friday deals are only in stores anyways. I've opted for some snuggle time with my 2 year old this morning over braving the crowds at the mall.

Here are a few special deals from some of my friends and affiliates that are share worthy. This post is taking me forever to write... these deals are very distracting. I think I am shopping more than blogging! Comment if you have any great deals to pass on for Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

What The Heck Is A Muffatee? Part 2

Muffatees Revisited! Cute fingerless glove round up for moms & kids

Several years back I asked "What The Heck Is A Muffatee?" and my quest hasn't ended. One of my daughters just rediscovered our pair of Muffatee's (pictured above left) that I bought back then and while we've obviously figured out what muffatee's are (long fingerless knit gloves) now the question is where to find them.

Ruby Love glove & hat set (as seen on Kid Steals)

If you Google Muffatee, you'll discover mostly links to patterns. For this non-knitter a pdf pattern doesn't really help. I want to buy another pair! The Ruby Love pair we have was found on Kid Steals (w/a matching hat; picture above & left in very top pic). But it looks like Ruby Love is not active anymore since their last collection was spring 2010 and I don't see any mittens on their website. My search continues. On to alternative word searching and since it's a knit item where else but.... Etsy!

Have A Happy & Safe Halloween {2013}

Happy Halloween From Posh Little

Have a super fun (and safe) Halloween this year! If you think you need just a little more added to your entry way, try this DIY Monster Door made from paper plates and paper bags.

Posh*Little DIY Halloween Door Monster

I found this super fun Halloween Door Monster via Pinterest from Home Jelly (visit them for step by step instructions). I had everything I needed so this was a freebie project for me.

My only alteration/addition was they eyebrows. I made the eyes a touch low so I added eyebrows using shredded paper which turned out to be my favorite part so a very fun mistake. I happened to have green leftover from a golf themed party. You can find tons of colors at the dollar store (1/2 of a bag did the trick here). I used orange spider webs around the edges to hide any viable tape and the door handle. This is a pretty easy and quick project and has made for a very fun entry way this year. Hopefully I can get a few more years out of it.

Sarah + Abraham {Deal Alert}

Sarah + Abraham via Posh*Little

I discovered Sarah + Abraham back in Dec of '09 while on the prowl for customizable kid stationary. I fell in love with the adorable child characters and all the options of customizing them. My girls especially love these kind of cards for thank you notes.

Sarah + Abraham customized pillows {via Posh*Little}

But now there is so much more than just stationary and was thrilled when I found them on Zulily today. The pillows above where a limited time item and not currently available {insert sad face here}. I want one for each of my kids so will be keeping an eye for them to come back. Or make some myself... that would make for a very fun #projectfail post I am sure.

Street Sign Decor- Traffic Themed Wall Hooks & Drawer Pulls

Pakhuis Oost traffic sign wall hooks & drawer pulls via Posh*Little

I've been scouting out new themes for my kids rooms these days. New colors, new characters and outside the box ideas since I'm squeezing 4 kids into 3 not so large rooms and they are all up for a change.

My 10 year old son has had the same room since he was two and while he hasn't complained yet, I know the clock is ticking. I still love his room... the first Mammut line from Ikea before they shrunk it. Ikea wasn't in Portland back then so it was a big undertaking. They didn't really ship things and the closest Ikea was Seattle. But what determined new mom doesn't love a good challenge?

Pakhuis Oost traffic sign wall hooks & drawer pulls via Posh*Little

I'm not ready to transition him to a teenage room yet so but these bold traffic sign wall pegs and drawer pulls from Pakhuis Oost (via Amsterdam) really stood out. They could work in a little boys room as well but don't scream baby. He's always yelling at his sisters to get out so it's actually quit fitting for him at this age and for a few more years.

Total Home Makeover- Read, Renew & Attack!

Total Home Makeover by Renee Metzler

I feel like I've been chasing my own tail lately trying to stay on top of everything. Laundry, carpool, meals, bedtime, paper work, homework, etc.. for 6 people and two dogs. Not to mention hubby having several trips out of town so getting double duty. I've been in desperate need of a home management class to get in front of the chaos vs. trying to keep up with it.

So, needless to say, I was thrilled to receive my review copy of Renew Your Space & Spirit Total Home Makeover by Renee Metzler. I've had no time to read lately but that's exactly why I need this! Total Home maker is not just a book about organizing your house. It's a 20 day planner with daily chats, prayers, instructions, tips, secrets, worksheets and much more to help organize yourself, family and home. She's got you cleaning, organizing, zoning, designing, budgeting, etc. This may sound overwhelming but it's a clear plan and Renee has me quite motivated so I am excited, not overwhelmed, to conquer home management.

One of may favorite theories put into place is Renee's strategy for ultimately organizing everything in your life by starting with just your own simple daily routine. You start out small. You take it day by day and then a key word she uses that hits the nail on the spot at my house... attack. You don't do laundry. You attack it! I am thoroughly enjoying this book and the motivation it's bringing to gain control of my life/family/home.

Snag your copy of Total Home Makeover @ Amazon for $10.79.

Wild Things Funky Little Dresses

Wild Things Funky Little Dresses

I can't pinpoint what I am obsessed with the most: the doll, the toadstool, the dress or the red riding hood cape. Is there a Buy It All Button here? I think this photo from Wild Things Funky Little Dresses sums up my odd obsession with toadstools, me having 3 girls and my love of handmade items perfectly. And the toadstool thing makes perfect sense (if you are judging me) since I am in my 30's which means I was raised on Mario where toadstools represent extra life's and well red and white mushrooms are just kind of stylish. But, this post is about a dress with trees and bears. Focus.

Wild Things Funky Little Dresses

This adorable dress can be found on Etsy. And for the other items minus the toadstool, are available for purchase too. Yes the red riding hood cape and the doll (which was available at the time of publishing this post but not shortly thereafter). Toadstool no. Lots of other ADORABLE DRESSES, yes!

To offer a little toadstool decor (since I couldn't find the knit toadstool), here is a plate I made at Wells Glass Studio during a private group class. All the other ladies made jewelry. I made a Mario mushroom plate. To those gals I am a nerd. To my 10 year son... I am a GOD.

Porcelain Typography Trays

Porcelain Typography Trays

Typography has been huge in web & graphic design over the last year or so. I've always been a fan of using unique and distinct fonts as design elements so it's a trend I have been embracing not only as a boutique web designer but also as a decorator. These porcelain typography trays initially caught my attention as something for myself (my desk, kitchen, laundry room, etc) until I saw the G tray and thought of how cute that would be on my daughter Greenley's dresser.

Porcelain Typography Trays

Personalized items are always fun in a nursery or kids room and while yes these are porcelain, out of reach they would be adorable in a kids room. Love these for me or for them. $10 per tray @ Nordstrom.com

Pop Up Placemats {w/stickers}

pop-up-placemats.jpg

Any parent knows that pop ups are a great way to keep a child's attention. I think that's why I am extra smitten with these adorable and playful pop up placemats from hello hanna. While my two year old would most likely just rip hers to shreds, my older kids would absolutely love this over a restaurant menu any day (they've got an activity area on the flip side).

Pop Up Placemats @ Hello Hanna

These are made on an un-coated heavy card-stock so I am guessing that they are not super reusable but something that would be great for the diaper bag, restaurants and traveling. Each design comes with sticker sets so the kids can engage with their placemat even more.
