Rowan is one lucky baby. Outside of having a pretty cool & stylish mama, she also has a GIGANTIC & ultra hip nursery! I was enamored and inspired with Rowans nursery from a wondeful blogger Jen Lula of jenloveskev (found via Top Baby Blogs) and excited to give my readers a peek.
A couple things really caught my eye here. Jen has managed to fill a room full of handmade items (toys, textiles & decor) and still maintain a very modern, uncluttered and organized nursery. That can be a tricky balance sometimes. She has done it beautifully.
I also love the windowsill bookshelf. Obviously Rowan is hurting for space here so this clever little bookcase/desk area is a great use of an often hard to use area.

I love fielding readers questions but until today, have never posted them. How selfish! So here was a great question from Wendy that is a biggie for me & my 4 kids... getting out the door.
Wendy
Our solution for this, which has worked wonderfully for the last few years, is to have a cute {of course} bag for each event that's packed and ready to go before hand. I spend enough time just trying to get all 4 kids in the car so it's important that they are ready when it's time to go. We do spend a little extra $$ making sure the bag is appropriately themed but the kids are way more excited about participating in keeping organized this way since the bag part of the uniform. I've used plain duffle bags and it doesn't have the same effect. There's no pride in a boring bag!

Another important aspect here is to have the kids pack their bag after each event, then hang it or store it. This is a crucial step because then when it's time to go, all they have to do is grab their bag. There's no last minute searching for ballet slippers, Girls Scout sashes, balls, tutus or anything other excuse to be late or not ready. They bring their bags with them too so they can either pack up when there done or store clothes they need to change in or out of.

I just used a cheap wooden hanging bar (from Micheals that I hand intended to paint) and double sided tape to create an easy grab-and-go (where the kids can hang/grab it themselves) rack in our downstairs closet. I will soon be upgrading to a bigger rack, like this 5 double hook rack from Ikea, since I we are having more and more activities. Just be careful to not use too hefty of a rack or you won't be able to get away with just using double sided tape. Command Hooks would be a great solution if you're renting or want to make sure you don't damage the door or wall.

I love having things labeled. Organized, divided and labeled. Not only are things easier to find, for me and the kids, they are also easier to put away. Back in October, I did a roundup of a handful of baby/kid closet dividers. At the time I was organizing my nursery closets so was searching online but ever since have had creating my own set of hanger dividers (and something that could double as labels for their boxed clothes) on my to-do list .
This idea is perfect for baby closets where you have a myriad of sizes and not always a myriad of space. They outgrow their clothes so fast, if you lose an outfit for even a few weeks, they may never wear it at all! Dividers are also great for growing kids that are in between sizes or siblings that have to share a closet. With 4 kids, all of these reasons apply for us.
Over the weekend I needed to make labels for the boxes of clothes the kids were both outgrowing and growing into. I need bright and bold colorful cards with really big letters attached to each container so I could see what each box was from the back the of my giant closet. My older daughters, who share a closet, also needed some dividers to organize their dresses.
So, it was time to scratch this project (for me and for my download section) off the to-do list.

I didn't have card stock but I had a ton of photo paper so I designed these hanging closet dividers to print on 4 x 6 inch photo paper. I think they turned out stunning and I'm really excited to share my DIY project and offer my templates for you to download, print and find the organizing fanatic in you! {or slightly inspired, part-time fanatic}.
To start you'll want to grab the baby or toddler closet divider templates from the download section. Each individual template is based on common sizes (NB, 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m...2T,3T and so on). Click on the size you want to print and it'll open up a PDF file for you to print. Of course your printer options/settings will vary but here are a few things I did:

Crochet hats were a huge obsession for me this fall. Especially super funky ones like sock monkeys, owls, flying pigs and angry birds.
With all our trips back and forth to our seemingly miles away bus stop and the myriad of events were baby sister had to tag along, quickly throwing on one of her hats kept Hadley warm and cozy plus the center of attention. We never left the house with out one of Hadley's signature hats!
It's getting harder and harder to get her to wear them now (she wants to play with them) but I still try and have 3 older kids who will happily wear their funky handmade creations.
One of my favorite hats was an Angry Bird inspired flying pig hat & super soft owl hat from KnitNutbyJL on Etsy. I found KnitNutByJL originally through Heartsy (my fav place to find Etsy deals) but at $10-$12 a hat, they are already a great deal! Jill was great at creating a custom order for me and we love our hats.

But it tastes so right! It's a new year and we should be setting our weight loss resolutions, right? Heck, what's a few more days of sugary bliss :-)
Growing up, my mother never made cookies. She made bars. My sister and I always blamed the un-traditionally square cookies on her being French Canadian and a hippy (we just blamed everything on that). Really, it was because she was a busy and clever mom. So my dilemma of wanting both cookies and brownies with out spending the entire day cooking was squashed after a little trip down memory lane and some pondering of What Would Nana Do?Brownie Cookie Bars! And so we bake.

This concoction is cheap, easy and a great recipe to get the kids involved. I stocked up on after-season baking mixes and I think I paid less than $1 for the box of brownies and cookie mix (combined). I'm sharing the cheat version using store bought cookie/brownie mixes. Of course you could always do this from scratch. For me, I've got a baby who doesn't nap for more than 45 minutes and gets into a lot of trouble when she's awake, so from-scratch recipes are not any fun. {insert baby holder dream sequence with a nanny or doting Grandma here}
What You'll Need (for the cheat version):
Now keep in mind that these ingredients and instructions were for the type of cookie/brownies we used. You'll want to follow the directions on the boxes.
Getting started: Preheat your over to 350°. Wash your hands, put on your hair net, sip your wine.. and do any other pre-cooking rituals you may have. Grab a kid, a large bowl and your cookie mix to get going.

A couple years ago, whenever we'd try to dress our daughter up a little girly, with what little vocab & body language she had, she'd shut us down. She'd reply with her arms bulging out in a rowing motion similar to someone showing how their belly growing, "I don't want to be like this." It took us a while but we figured out that like this meant wearing puffy or filly clothes. Yikes, I had a tomboy. Nothing a little ballet lesson or two couldn't cure.
Around the time she turned 4 (gasp, finally), she started to enjoy some of the more girlie things in life and not just rolling in the mud or doing whatever her big brother was doing. Those ballet lessons paid off. Now with three little girls we are drowning in pink ruffles and lace.
So I, always being on the look out for the fancier version of trendy accessories, am loving these adorable LegRuffles. LegRuffles, the posh cousin of leg warmers from Huggalugs, are legwarmers knitted with a cotton blend yarn giving them a soft flowing feel. Such a fun winter accessory and a great way to add extra frill to any like this outfit! $12 @ HuggalugsUSA.Com

Mine does. It's very peculiar behavior but I guess it's something that baby's do. Licking handles. It's so odd. Funny thing is... I didn't have a problem with my first three kids gnawing on shopping carts. Maybe I carried or wore them more when I went shopping because it wasn't until recently, with baby #4, that I needed a shopping cart cover. Of course, it had to be modern, hip and not something that Grandma knitted or whipped up with leftover fabric scraps (she likes to do that).
I picked up for a steal the Numbers Cloud Cover (top photo above) by Infantino on Zulily a while back ($29.98 @ Amazon) and it's been great. It's puffy, cozy and covers everywhere Hadley could reach. Doubling as a high chair cover is also very cool. Yes my baby licks high chairs too. Good golly, doesn't she watch the news and reports on high chair germs? Yuck.

Above: Balboa Baby shopping cart & high chair covers ($45.38 @ Amazon); The Cool Wazoo 5 in 1 Changing Pad ($64.95 @ CoolWazoo.Com).
And of course, you can find more amazing, adorable and handmade shopping cart covers on Etsy.

Ah, floor time! Not only is it Uber important for baby's development, it gives mommy's arms a nice break. While my on-the-verge-of-walking 9 month old is now too mobile for our Tinylove Gymini® Move & Play, I will always remember our good times {insert bittersweet wave goodbye here} fondly. I had a hard time getting her out of my tired arms for tummy time when she was really little so this super playful mat was a godsend and grabbed her attention fast.

I call this a play mat but I guess since these have so much going on, technically and rightfully so, it's called an activity gym. Great for belly and back time so it's something you can start using way before and after your little one can roll over.
There are several very unique features that had me at Hello with the Gymini® Move & Play. The biggest was the adjustable arches & mobile. The mobile has lights, sounds and an accordion pully/chewy toy which is great by itself but even better, it moves around! You can slide it to be at the perfect reach or view of however you baby is laying.

Another really cool feature is that the ends snap up and form a little barrier. You wouldn't think it would be up enough to contain a newly moving baby but it did for us. Until our baby would crawl fully with her belly off the floor, she would not attempt to break out. When it trips them up, you unsnap the ends and same goes with the arches. As your baby grows, you adjust or just remove the arches all together.
