My walls are covered in canvas art and I love canvas because: A) I found it's a great way to add large amounts of color or pizzazz to a white wall {when your landlord or hubby won't let you paint}; B) canvas always seems easier to hang than frames; C) canvas art just looks sooo good! I love canvas in the kids rooms, playroom and nursery especially. It's a fantastic alternative to framed art or pictures and you can do so much with them.

So I was beyond thrilled when Piecemaker Studio sent this amazing modern Canvas Keepsake. I have all sorts of canvas paintings, both purchased and DIY (mostly DIY that have been repainted several times). But I didn't have a anything like this.
The birth announcement like style is such a treasure. I love it and it is fun addition to the nursery. It's 16" x 20" so a substantial sized canvas. The mix of modern and cutesy fonts is perfect and I love the colors. When you order it, you get to pick between a monkey, lamb or owl for the character. All 3 are pretty cute so it's a tough call. I chose the lamb. Cute, huh? $65 at PiecemakerStudio.Com or find them on Etsy. Read on for a chance to win one...

When my first baby was about 6 months old I took a baby sign language class. I had no clue what it was about but I would of done anything to get out of the house to hang out with other mommies. It was similar to other mommy classes: a bunch of tired but eager moms sitting in a circle with baby in their laps and an instructor flashing a series of gestures similar to reciting Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
But we weren't learning songs. We were learning how to teach our babies sign language. Of course it was just the basics: eat, more, bottle (or nurse), all done and so on. The classes were fun, informative and it was a great mommy activity that I would highly recommend. At home, my husband and I worked with my son for a few months and by 11 months he was signing back to us and anyone who would look at him! No throwing his plate across the room because he wanted more. No screaming at the top of his lungs until we figured out what he was trying to communicate. He would press his tiny hands together in the sign for more and we would reply bright eyed and smiling, "More?"
We teach our kids hand gestures and most kids are using them before they learn to talk already. They wave, blow kisses, put their arms up to be held and so on. We are already teaching them signs even if we don't recognize it. These early forms of communications are just the tip of the iceberg of what they can learn and do.
This time around I don't have time to head out and revisit the classes so I am getting back into signing with an at-home Baby Signs Program. Baby Signs® generously sent me the Baby Signs Complete Starter Kit (read on for a chance to win this for yourself) which comes with an 80 page parent guide book & DVD, 4 board books, a quick flip guide for your fridge and the My Baby Signs Favorites DVD.
During meals, baths, story time and other daily routines, we talk with my 8 month old just like we would normally but we also use the sign gestures in hopes that over the next few months, she will be signing back. Even little things like talking about 'more' cereal or being 'sleepy' are fun and engaging activities.
We have been having such a great time with this kit. I say we because it's not just me. It's dad, big brother, big big sister and big sister all getting involved in discovering how to communicate better with baby Hadley. The kids love watching the Favorites DVD with her and are very entertained with the puppets and animations. All 5 of us are constantly running to the fridge to check the flip guide for a new sign through out the day. Hadley will often giggle when we have her make the signs with her hands. She loves the attention, affection and playfulness. I am starting to see her press her hands together, either more or the start our diaper change sign.

Sadly, as my kids get older the honeymoon period of new toys seems to get shorter. Buying them new toys all the time can get really expensive and ultimately just become another thing collecting dust or getting thrown on the floor. I've tried toy swaps with friends but that caused the problem of the kids being resentful of seeing their toys at someone else's house, no matter how neglected the toy had been.
Toygaroo, has a great solution for this constant need for new toys as well as toy neglect... send it back.
If you've a fan of Netflix, than Toygaroo is right up your ally. As a member, you browse through hundreds of toys by category, brand or age and fill your "toy pouch." Then, depending on your package, the toys from your toy pouch are delivered (quickly) right to your door. Enjoy it for the month (or two) and when you are ready to return your box of toys, use the provided shipping label to FedEx it back Toygaroo. They sanitize your returned toys and then ship out your new ones.
One of the issues that I would be worried about with a toy rental service would be germs. So the Safety page was one of the first pages I checked out on the Toygaroo website. My concerns were quickly addressed and squashed. Toygaroo has a 3 step sanitization that they use on all their toys including brand new and returned by members. Not only are the toys steam cleaned, they are fully sanitized using an all organic, EPA approved, bleach free product. After inspection each toy is shrink wrapped.
We've been using Toygaroo for about a month now. Our first round of toys, the Deluxe Wood Lacing Sneaker, Vtech Letter Book, MobiGoTouch Learning System, and Mirror Pound-A-Ball Toy have been really fun choices that even showed up shrink wrapped (like they were new) and with batteries in them. The Mirror Pound-A-Ball from B. Toys has been a smashing hit surprisingly for all the kids (even my 7 year old).

I love it when brands effectively improve on a basic yet essential item like these Cuddly Bodysuits from Disney Baby. Bodysuits are the work horses of baby clothes and you can never have to many.
Sure they made them cute (it's Disney) but they also added a very cool little feature to get offer a little more life out of the bodysuit... 3 little extra snaps. My 4 month old is very long for her age and has already outgrown her 3-6 month bodysuits... except for these! The extra snaps give her just enough room to wear these for a little while longer (I'm hoping to get a whole extra month). They are soft and sturdy...holding up very well in the wash and against her chubby arms and belly. The Monsters, Inc Cuddly Bodysuits are so fun. Almost makes me wish I had a boy! Keep reading for the giveaway details and a special offer...

Even though it's July, my 4 month old baby Hadley is still wearing crochet hats. Partly because at night it still gets a little chilly, partly to cover the little rubbed out bald spot she's sporting from laying on her back too much and partly because I am obsessed with how cute she looks in them. It's goodies like this that make me favor the colder months!
Beanie Designs sent little Hadley the cutest handmade off white earflap flower beanie. We love it. It stays on really well and she loves to chew on the braided yarn that hangs down. I keep this and a little white sweater in her diaper bag for nights on the porch at friends houses. Keep reading to find out how to win one for yourself!

Beanies shown above: Cream Bear Ear Hat w/Earflaps (top photo; $28); Organic Cotton Cream Stocking Hat with flower (2nd & 3rd photo; $32); Brown Beanie Visor With Flower ($28); Organic Cotton: Multi Color Baby Stocking Hat (collage left; $32); Organic cotton Multi Color Stocking Hat ($32 collage top right); Organic Color Pink Multi Color stocking (collage bottom right; $32).

Summer vacation is finally here. I've got my kids scheduled in a bunch of camps and classes over the summer but we also will have a lot of down time. So I'm stocking the house and the yard with as many activities and projects I can think of to keep them busy, working together and keeping their creative juices running until they go back to school.

Since my husband is "raising grass not kids," I am kind of limited to some of the outdoor items so recyclable cardboard playhouses like these from Build A Dream Playhouses are perfect. The kids can color or paint on them for hours and then play in them for even longer.
Build A Dream Playhouses was founded by an Ohio dad (go Buckeyes & Skyline) to "deliver safe, affordable, eco-friendly products that stimulate and encourage the endless imagination of ALL children." Their playhouses are not only made out of eco-friendly material (products are manufactured from 80% recycled materials that result in an end product that is 100% recyclable), but what kid doesn't love to color and play in a giant box?
My girls have really wanted to do a lemonade stand with their neighbors recently. While I cringe at the idea of hanging out on the sidewalk for hours watching my kids solicit the neighbors, it's an iconic kids activity and I'm not going to be the parent that stifles my child's inner salesman. So to the Snack Shack we go.
This has been such an amazing project and playhouse for my 3 older kids (ages 4,5 & 7). They have spent several hours already coloring it, with lots more to do. I've been eager to move it outside but because of the weather, it's in the playroom for now. It's attached to their indoor kitchen so they have an entire room of kitchen play fun. I kept putting off the lemonade sale but now that school and the sun is out, I think I'm out of excuses.

Soccer is getting a ton of attention here in Portland these days thanks to our new Major League Soccer team, the Timbers. While everyone and their dog seems to have season tickets, generally I'm off to local fields to watch my own little soccer stars in action. Now even my 3 month old is getting in on the fun with her own pair of cleats from First Cleats.
First Cleats started a year ago by a mother and daughter team out of Kirkland Washington *Go NW!* and are designed after soccer, football, baseball and golf cleats. These are probably one of the most adorable little pairs of baby athletic shoes I've seen. I've always thought there was nothing cuter than little Nike's or Adidas infant tennis shoes until I saw these.
These firm enough to stay on yet soft shoes are sized 0-6 months and come adorably packaged on turf which make them a great gift (it's always so hard to guess baby shoe sizes when they don't go by age).

First Cleats sent me a pair of the pink and of the black cleats to check out (thanks guys) and we've had tons of fun with them. Since baseball was just ending and summer soccer kicking off, I was so excited to get these cute kicks on my 3 month old.
They fit pudgy little Hadley very well now and I'm guessing we will get a few more months out of them. I know the black First Cleats are meant to be for boys but I think she looks adorable in both. It depends how girly her outfit is which pair she wears to the games.
